Supplemental Educational Services (SES)

Supplemental Educational Services (SES) is a program that pays for  eligible students to have tutorial services before school, after school or on the weekends.  Most important is that parents select the tutor they want to provide the services.  The No Child Left Behind law empowers the parent.  Its your choice!

SES provides additional academic instruction to improve the grades and test scores of students.  These services include "free tutorials" or "extra help" provided by public schools, charter schools, faith-based, for-profit and non-profit organizations.   If your child or children are eligible, the school district will mail you SES enrollment forms and a list of state approved providers.

The Mentoring Center is a not-for-profit, 4th-year, State Approved SES Provider.  Click here to learn more about our SES Tutorials.

Who is Eligible?
Students are eligible for SES, free tutoring services, if their Title I school failed to meet state standards for at least three consecutive years.  Some state designed "A" or "B" schools are SES schools. Check the list of eligible schools.  Your school district will notify in August if you child is eligible for SES free tutoring.

How do I register for SES?
Look for the forms in the mail.  The school district will mail SES enrollment forms and a list of state-approved SES providers to the parents of eligible students.  Try to attend the SES Provider Fairs to learn more about each provider.  Ask providers:

  1. How many hours of tutorial services will your organization provide?
  2. When will tutorials start?  When will they end?
  3. Where will the services be offered?  At school? At my child's afterschool provider site? At home?
  4. What will it cost me to continue tutorial services for my child once SES funding is depleted?
  5. Will you offer "free" refresher sessions prior to the FCAT?
  6. What are the qualifications of your teachers?
  7. Demonstrate their after school tutorial curriculum.
  8. What's their record of effectiveness?
  9. Were they an approved SES provider last year?  Did they successfully provide SES tutorials? If not, why?

Once you select your preferred provider, submit a signed SES form mail it back to the address provided. To learn more,   call the Mentoring Center today 1-877-376-3686.
